In support and friendship, many of Barb’s co-workers created this quilt for her

We pause to remember Barb Tranello, a long-term employee who lost her battle with cancer in October. Barb began her career with General Code when the company was barely 10 years old. In her 35 years with General Code, she saw the change from a linotype system to word processing; from printing on the company press to publishing from computer disks; from preparing only printed pages to posting Codes on the Web. She adapted to these changes, knowing that if she no longer had to hand collate supplements or if she could search in electronic sample files, her clients would be better served.
Barb grew up in the small Upstate New York village where General Code had its beginnings and joined the company in 1971 as an Editorial Assistant. She moved to Sales and Customer Service, where for close to two decades her attention to detail, her genuine concern for our clients and her prodigious memory benefited both clients and coworkers. For the last 10 years, Barb brought her vast knowledge to the editing of supplements, working in many states, but focusing her efforts in New Jersey. Her understanding of her clients and their problems and her knowledge of our procedures enabled her to devise creative and elegant solutions.
Barb’s sense of humor, her polished telephone presence and her beautiful handwriting are just a few ways in which she brought grace and charm to all her interactions. She was an integral part of the General Code family, and we will miss her.
We knew her best as an editor and friend, but what brought her life the most joy was her daughter, Danielle. We grieve with Danielle and Barb’s mother Gerry (also a long-term General Code employee, now retired) and other family and friends and offer them our sincere condolences.
