Like many other government agencies, the Dane County Courts system was experiencing increasing frustration with the amount of time it took to file and retrieve documents. Because they deal with a huge number of documents every day, Dane County needed an efficient and affordable way to simplify the process.

County officials decided that the best solution would be a document management system that could transform its paper files into an electronic format. The retention period in Wisconsin for Child Support records is thirty years, which creates an enormous archive of materials to be maintained. Before Laserfiche was installed, accessing those records involved physical labor - sliding shelving units out of the way.
