New technologies are changing the publishing industry in many ways. As an industry leader, General Code understands that Code books are really information repositories. Our technology experts would describe that information contained in your Code as data. When that data is combined with the right software it becomes much more accessible and flexible. New technologies exist today that speed the transition of this published data to different forms of output, including Web pages, CDs, and DVDs.
At General Code we have invested in a new technology that utilizes XML (extensible markup language)—a programming language that allows us to better control and deliver the database of information contained in a Code. This dynamic new publishing system is revolutionizing how documents are being managed. It offers many significant advantages to our customers, including greater access to their Code in electronic form, and the ability to effectively update their Code with new legislation. XML’s flexible structure also helps ensure that this technology will not quickly become obsolete, but will adapt easily to future development.
Integrating this software into our production processes makes us more efficient, and provides a great opportunity to serve our customers better, in turn helping them to better serve their citizens. As we begin applying XML technology in the production of our published Codes, the changes you will see in the actual output are minor. The differences are to be found in functionality and flexibility. It will allow us to broaden our service offerings, and in the near future to expand the capabilities of our electronic products.
At General Code, we invest in our people, our technology, and our relationships with our customers. Our leadership in embracing innovative XML technology demonstrates our commitment to providing state of the art solutions that better serve our customers and help them better serve their communities.
