A well-maintained Code will
serve a local government for many years. At some point, however, it
may need to be revitalized. A reformat or recodification is an opportunity to clean up and modernize your existing Code.
You may have a Code that's bursting its binder after many years
of adding new legislation. Reformatting your Code can help. Many Codes were originally published years ago
in a 6 by 9 inch format. A number of our customers have reduced the number of pages
in their Code, making copying easier and saving copying costs by switching to an 8 ½ by 11 inch format. Reformatting also helps in situations where not all supplements may have been properly inserted and now every
official has a slightly different version of the Code. Once the reformat is complete, new and refreshed versions of the Code can be distributed for everyone to use.
A recodification allows you to examine your Code and make sure it is up-to-date and enforceable. State laws may have changed or been adopted that have created inconsistency in your local laws or made parts of your Code obsolete. The structure of the Code can also be reorganized to make information easier to find while providing appropriate room for future amendments. All historical information
is retained, and the revitalized Code will accommodate legislative growth and changes for many years to come.
