Changes to NYS Dog Licensing Requirements
Recent amendments to the Agriculture and Markets Law will return the licensing function to the local licensing agents (towns, cities and some villages) beginning January 1, 2011. Each municipality is required to amend its current dog licensing laws accordingly, or may need to enact a new dog licensing local law or ordinance.
The licensing provisions in the sample local laws listed below may be of assistance as you work through this issue. As always, please do not hesitate to contact us if you have questions, and consult with your Municipal Attorney regarding the legality and appropriateness of the legislation you are considering.
