Farmers Markets
It seems that more and more communities are opening farmers markets, and for a lot of good reasons. Farmers markets offer locally produced food and farm-related products. Today, consumers are more interested in buying locally grown produce and natural foods to help sustain local agricultural businesses – not to mention to offer their families healthy options. Furthermore, a trip to the local farmers market is fun for the whole family, because there is often a festive atmosphere, with live music, cooking demonstrations and other special attractions. Many farmers markets enjoy a year-round business by hosting communitywide garage sales, craft sales and seasonal sales, such as spring fl owers, pumpkins and Christmas trees. Another way to serve the community is for vendors to accept debit cards and food stamps. Available sample legislation includes a permit process, regulation of vendors and maintenance of the property.
