What does 'backfile conversion' mean?
Backfile conversion is the process of converting paper documents to electronic format (digital or image).
Can I get rid of my paper after I put it into Laserfiche?
This is a topic that should be discussed with your attorneys. Retention requirements vary by state. We do know that some courts have accepted electronic images as admissible when they are the best available evidence, but opinions are not uniform on this issue.
Can the images be altered?
No. For an explanation of how this technology protects your original documents from alteration, contact our Technical Support staff at 1-855-GEN-CODE (436-2633).
Can I use my existing equipment?
Yes, Laserfiche can be installed on existing PCs and servers provided they meet the minimum system requirements.
For minimum system requirements, see the Product Information page.
To check the compatibility of your scanner, call our Technical Support staff at 1-855-GEN-CODE (436-2633).
We have an existing imaging system, can we transfer the information out of this system into Laserfiche?
Probably. If the images are stored in a standard format we can usually extract these images and bring them into Laserfiche. The best way to determine whether your system is compatible is to contact us. E-mail us at mail [at] generalcode [dot] com or call 1-855-GEN-CODE (436-2633).
How long will CDs last?
As long as you need them to. Laserfiche uses the standard industry formats TIFF and ASCII to store your documents and always provides a migration path either to new media or updates to the software. The one thing we know is that technology is always improving. Today we store things on CD, but next year it may be DVD, and five years from now it will be something we haven't even thought of yet. The real question is 'will I always be able to access my documents with Laserfiche?' The answer to that is a resounding 'Yes!'.
What can I store in a Laserfiche system?
Minutes, vital records and building and planning documents are just a few of the items communities are storing and accessing with their Laserfiche systems. You can import existing electronic documents or scan in paper documents. Scanners can process everything from business cards to E-size building plans. We can help you design a system to meet your specific needs.
What if I have questions after the installation?
You can call or e-mail our technical staff with questions anytime during regular business hours. When you choose a General Code Laserfiche system, you will receive the same exceptional customer service we provide for all of our products and services.
[See our Technical Support page for contact information.]
