The statutory duties of the Clerk are numerous, technical and legally essential to the proper operation of municipal government. Cynthia Hunt has been dutifully fulfilling her responsibilities for since she was elected in 1981.

35 years, witnessing many changes and Michigan, Otsego Township is mostly rural in nature and still maintains an agriculture and tourist based economy. However, trends are moving toward more light industry and technology, which has translated into Allegan County becoming one of the fastest growing regions of the state.

Probably the most significant factor that influences the character of Otsego Township is its proximity to both Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo. These major metropolitan areas are no more than a 30minute drive from the Township, providing stability in the region, with major employers including Pfizer, the Kellogg Foundation, Perrigo Company, Parker Hannafin Corporation and McPherson Plastics. Otsego Township runs along M89, a stretch of highway that has seen tremendous growth and development over the years, according to Cynthia.

In her role as Township Clerk, Cynthia enjoys the opportunity to serve her community daily. She was particularly excited about the Township Board’ s 1995 approval of the codification of the Township’ s legislation by General Code. Good customer service is vital in her own position, which is why, Cynthia says, she especially appreciated the professional interaction and great customer service she received from the General Code team that worked on the Township’ s codification.

Cynthia says she appreciates the dedication and hard work of the General Code team. Customer service has always been important to Cynthia, and she has found all of her interactions with General Code professional and critical for the completion of the project.

Now that the project is complete, everyone in the Township office is very pleased with how much the new Code provides easy access to critical information. Legislation must be more than mere chronological enactments reposing in the pages of old records, Cynthia believes. It must also be logically arranged, easily accessible and up to date.

Cynthia is confident that the new Code will provide a practical and efficient tool for the courts, the police and other enforcement officials, enabling them to enforce their laws with confidence and consistency.
