A. Ross Kitt, II, founder of General Code Publishers Corp., passed away May 14, 2006, following a short illness and having recently celebrated his 90th birthday.
Mr. Kitt established General Code in 1962 when, serving as Town Supervisor of Ogden, New York, he grew frustrated by the difficulty of locating pieces of legislation. Having solved the problem by compiling the piles of paper into one up to date organized book, Mr. Kitt began providing codification services to other municipal officials facing the same frustrations.
Outside of business, Mr. Kitt, a dedicated community servant, served at different times as Councilman, Justice and Supervisor for the Town of Ogden. He was also a founding member of Park Ridge Hospital in Rochester, and as a lifelong supporter of libraries, he served several years as President of the Monroe County Library System Board of Trustees.
Mr. Kitt continued to serve on General Code’s Board of Directors into the 1990s. Perhaps his greatest legacy is felt in his influence on the culture and values of General Code. We are a company of people who feel like family, celebrating each other’s joys and triumphs, and supporting each other in times of great difficulty and loss. That level of caring and involvement extends beyond the brick and mortar of our office walls as well. Our customers are valued by all of us, and it is our commitment to live the values that have always been the cornerstone of our company: honesty and integrity; delighting our customers; efficiency; innovation and creativity; personal responsibility; freedom; and caring and concern.
Mr. Kitt set an example in his faithfulness to family, friends and our customers. It is an example we at General Code continue to honor and exemplify.
