Lou has served as Clerk of the Broome County Legislature since January of 1998. Mr. Augostini brought to the office, a broad depth of public and private sector experience. Following military service, he worked as a reporter and later worked for and retired from the IBM Corporation where he was a technical writer. He has served as a Village Trustee for the Village of Johnson City, NY and was elected to 5 terms as a member of the Broome County Legislature.
As Clerk, he has incorporated ISIS software into the process of retrieving information from Indexes to the Journal of Proceedings, which have been scanned back to 1968. Minutes since 1991 are available in an electronic format. The cumbersome searching by viewing each 'journal' is now a thing of the past. The Clerk's Office is right up to date with their index, their minutes, and their Journals of Proceedings.
The Clerk's Office processes over 600 resolutions and local laws each year, writing many of the resolutions which frees up some staff in the County's Law Department for other important duties.
Mr. Augostini serves as the County's Records Access Officer and handles all Freedom of Information Requests in an efficient and friendly manner. He also distributes ethics disclosure forms for the County's Board of Ethics and works with the Board to assure timely filing from Elected Officials, Legislators, and certain designated public officials.
The Clerk's Office has utilized PC Codebook and an internet subscribtion to assist the public and various County Departments in keeping up to date on Broome County's rules and regulations.
All of this has been done with a lot of work behind the scenes, but always with a smile. Lou's personal phrase should be adopted by more public officials: 'Remember, I work for you!'
