Meet General Code: Emily Wood
Born into a family of codifiers, Emily Wood seemed destined to follow their footsteps into a career in municipal government.
In 2006 Emily made her first foray into the world of codification with Coded Systems, LLC, a New Jersey-based codifier. There she honed her skills in various foundational code disciplines including editing, formatting, and indexing. She also worked directly with local communities to facilitate code sales and deliveries. In 2022, Emily joined General Code, bringing with her 15 years of practical codification experience and an enthusiasm for helping communities access their legislation in simple and understandable ways.
In 2017, Emily moved to California and was in the right spot to help with General Code’s westward expansion as the company acquired two Seattle-based codifiers. As a key part of General Code’s new West Coast Team, Emily specializes in Tribal and Municipal Codes for communities up and down the Pacific Coast. Recently, she expanded her service role to the Midwest, filling the unique codification needs of communities in Missouri and Michigan, Illinois, and Indiana.
Emily genuinely enjoys forming relationships with her customers and learning more about communities and their forms of government. “Every code, every community, is different and offers an exciting opportunity to evolve our understanding of the needs of our customers,” she says.
