Texas municipality prospers from the addition of General Code digital solutions

The combination of eCode360 and MapLink has become an important part of the Town of Prosper’s comprehensive digital approach to more accessible, accurate and efficient municipal code and zoning information.

The Challenge

Several ordinances that were not properly codified in its code, and a large number of Planned Development projects that were not easily accessible and manageable, led leaders in the Town of Prosper, Texas to search for solutions that would improve municipal and zoning code access, accuracy, and enforceability.

The Solution: A comprehensive digital approach

Several constructive conversations between Prosper’s Town Secretary and General Code opened the door to General Code’s digital solutions, including the eCode360 online code platform and MapLink interactive zoning map.

Town leaders were amazed by eCode360’s wide array of features, simple and intuitive navigation, and easy ways to keep the code up to date. The Town also shared with General Code an ongoing challenge it was having managing and providing easy access to more than 100 current Planned Development projects. General Code’s MapLink solution, which gives planners, developers and the public an interactive, visual tool for accessing property dimensions and zoning requirements all in one place, impressed Town leaders.

Getting to work

General Code’s eCode360 was quickly implemented, giving the Town access to the platform’s full array of tools including Multicode Search, New Laws, and others. The Town opted to add the TrackBack feature to the platform, allowing users to review original ordinances through embedded links in code sections.

General Code’s MapLink solution was added to the mix a few months later, linking the Town’s zoning information to an interactive online map.

Positive results

The expedited rollout and integration of eCode360, TrackBack, and MapLink have helped the Town make information more accessible and easier to manage while building a sustainable digital information environment that’s reliable and scalable.

The eCode360 platform allowed Town officials and residents to immediately access Prosper’s Code of Ordinances online. Several errors and inconsistencies in the original code were also quickly resolved during the recodification process. eCode360 has been praised for its superior formatting and layout, resulting in increased clarity and organization of code information. It has also made it easier for residents to find answers to questions on their own, enabling Town staff to regain and refocus their time on other community matters. The addition of TrackBack within eCode360 gave the portal added value, helping town staff review the origins of legislation for historical context and as a time-saving-tool for developing new legislation.

MapLink immediately delivered benefits, helping the Town better manage a large number of Planned Development projects and giving planners and the public easier access to property dimensions and related zoning requirements. MapLink has also helped the Town’s planning department streamline processes, answer questions from applicants and residents, and point everyone interested in detailed property information to a single, easy-to-use online portal.
